AI transparency statement
How Passit Plus Level 3 Calculus uses artificial intelligence, how answers are marked, how the readiness estimate and practice papers work, and how to question a mark. Issued under the Passit AI Transparency Framework, which applies across all Passit products.
Last updated 31 October 2026.
1. Scope
This statement covers all practice in the app at app.passit.cc: AS91577 Complex numbers, AS91578 Differentiation and AS91579 Integration.
Questions are based on published NZQA achievement criteria. Passit is an independent preparation tool and is not affiliated with NZQA or the Ministry of Education.
2. Use of artificial intelligence
Questions on Passit are generated by AI and marked against NZQA rubric criteria.
In this app, AI (Anthropic's Claude) helped write the questions, their answers, hints, methods and worked solutions, from skill maps Passit built from the NZQA standards, assessment specifications, schedules and examiners' reports. Before a question is used, computer algebra (SymPy) checks every answer, and an originality check compares it with every part of the 2021 to 2025 NZQA papers for its standard.
AI does not mark your answers, and none of your answers or personal information is sent to an AI service.
Questions are not reviewed one by one by a teacher. Passit approves the skill maps and the list of questions that go live in bulk, and a person reviews every problem report.
3. How answers are marked
Every answer is checked against a fixed answer key by computer algebra. The same answer always gets the same mark, and equivalent forms are accepted unless the question asks for a particular form (such as exact values or polar form). Common wrong answers get feedback that names the likely slip.
Only your final answer is marked. Your working is not marked, although the exam marks it.
Practice marks are guidance for study. They are not NCEA results. Only NZQA and your school award NCEA grades.
4. Readiness estimate
Progress shows, for each skill, how many questions you have tried and finished at each grade, and whether the skill looks secure at your target grade. A skill is assessed once you have tried at least 3 of its questions.
A practice estimate for a standard (for example "Around Merit") appears only after you have tried at least 8 of its questions, with at least 3 tried in half of its skills. It says "around" a grade when at least three quarters of the standard's skills are secure at that grade.
Readiness is a practice estimate to guide your study. It is not an official NCEA result and does not predict or guarantee one.
5. Practice papers
A practice paper has three questions with parts (a) to (e), from Achieved to Excellence, in 60 minutes. Each question is scored N0 to E8 the way the assessment schedule does, from the parts you got right, and the total out of 24 is turned into a grade with the 2024 cut scores. Because only final answers are marked, a practice paper grade can differ from what an examiner would give.
6. Questioning a mark
Every question has "Report a problem". Tell us what looks wrong, and a person from the Passit team reviews it. You can also email help@passit.cc. Once students have answered a question, we never edit it: if we find an error, we retire the question and add a corrected one, and past marks stay as they were.
7. Quality and originality
All Passit practice questions are written for Passit. They are not copied from NZQA examination papers, assessment schedules or exemplars, and we check the bank against NZQA's published papers.
8. Claims we do not make
- That the app is approved or endorsed by NZQA or the Ministry of Education.
- That questions or marks are reviewed, validated or approved by teachers.
- That the questions are free of AI.
- That practising on Passit guarantees any NCEA grade.
- That a readiness estimate or practice paper grade is academic or career advice.
9. Your information and our content
How we collect, use, store and delete your information is set out in our privacy policy. Using Passit content, including practice questions, to train AI models is not permitted.
